Last Friday, horror and confusion invaded the streets of the French capital. Several attacks were held in different spots of the city, causing several deaths and leaving many wounded.
After friday a global solidarity response is spreading. Many had shown their fury and rejection to these attacks, sending a message of peace to the French republic and have lift up different landmarks with the French flag.
As a response to show solidarity and a collective mourning, the local community and students in Bergen have organized symbolic events during the past days. One of the most symbolic spots of the city has been decorated with flowers, candles, and peace messages.
Amandine Tisserand a French woman living in Bergen believes that the Norwegians have shown a special support.
– I think they are here to support us, to support France, she says.
The Response of the global community
During the past days many have criticized the media response which has been focusing in Paris and less in the attacks that happened in Beirut the same day. Frank Aarebrot a professor and academic of the Department of Comparative Politics.
– It is a common misunderstanding when we say that we care less when we compared one country with another. We always write more about the countries that are closer geographically. It does not mean that you care less about people losing their lives in other parts of the world, but the more away the country, the less attention it gets.
