This week, Bergen International Film Festival is taking place at different venues in the city. The festival has been arranged every year since the year 2000, and in terms of the number of films being shown, it is the biggest film festival in Norway. John Nations says that the festival means a lot to him.

– I come to see films that let me know more about the world than I would get from the mainstream media, he says. He has been at the festival many times before, and sees the value of an event like this. He thinks everyone should take advantage of the opportunity provided by the festival.

Focus on Documentaries

This year the festival is focusing on documentaries. Saeed Taji Farouky, one of the contributors to the festival, feels very welcome in Norway.

– Norwegians like to engage with filmmakers, he says. After screening his film, a documentary based on the war in Afghanistan, Farouky says he got a good response from the audience. He believes many people take an interest in documentaries these days, and that they are a new tool of investigative journalism.

There are still five days left of the festival, and Emma Gyllander thinks everyone should attend the festival. Why?

– Because this is a once in a year opportunity!
