The Student Party, DERA, has put forward a proposal this week to send a strongly worded letter to the Pope asking him to “tell God to make the noisy kids shut their mouths please”.

The Student Party ‘The Only Real Alternative’ (DERA) will ask The Student Parliament (SP-UiB) to vote on Monday to approve their strongly worded letter to Pope Francis.  .

DERA feels that the Holy Father could stop the children from St. Paul’s school distracting  them by getting rid of their “storefri” (Long Lunch Break). According to DERA this noise distracts a lot of students who use Ulrike Pihls Hus to study during the exam period. Going directly to the Pope they feel will bypass a lot of the bureaucracy involved in talking to St. Pauls School by going straight to the top of the Catholic Church.

DERA, a Party?

Running on a campaign of removing outdoor lunch breaks for St. Paul’s school children. DERA also has a policy of having more asian food in the canteen, reunifying the Kalmar Union with Bjørgvin as the capital and getting softer toilet paper for UiB. Eirik Lie Reirkerås, an elected representative of DERA, says.

– We are serious. We mean what we do. Maybe we go about it in an orthodox way, but still it’s an issue and we’re raising it.

The Letter

There is an excerpt from the letter in which DERA furthers their point by elaborating on this issue

– This is very noisy for us who wants to study the ways of God’s creations, espcecially in the summertime (it’s very cold here in  the north, and normally everyone is inside other than in the summertime (also, here in Bergen it rains all the fucking time (maybe you could tell God to do something about that aswell, while you’re at it)))

St. Paul’s is too loud

Many students have been affected by the noise from St. Paul’s school but some have suggested it would be better to talk to the Principle of the school instead.

When BSTV visited the school, the Deputy Principal January Wilhelm Werner said it was key for Catholics to push everything down to the local level and hoped they would be the first point of contact in future.

A Big Concern

The Student Parliament leader, Tommy Aarethun, has stated that there are more urgent issues for the Parliament to cover at this time.

– I think the Student Parliament should have a meeting about a lot of things, but I don’t think the Student Parliament should write a letter to the pope.

He added that it was up to the Student Parliament to vote, but did not think it would go through.
